[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Here's a quick cut preview of an upcoming episode of the Work it, Live it, Own it podcast.

[00:00:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me ask you this because this is what this podcast is truly about.

[00:00:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Everybody has their hero-heroine story, how they started, where they are now and you have

[00:00:20] [SPEAKER_01]: a successful thriving business but every successful entrepreneur faces its challenges.

[00:00:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Can you tell us about some of the setbacks you've encountered and the strategies you've

[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_01]: used to overcome them to continue building a thriving business?

[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Um, I thank you for asking that because we do see a lot of these self-annointed gurus and

[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_00]: experts out there on social media that seem to just figure it out overnight.

[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, overnight successes, maybe there's some out there but that's not reality as a whole.

[00:00:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I have gone through my fair share of struggles personally, professionally in life.

[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it took me, I've had a very roundabout way to where I am today.

[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It hasn't been easy, it hasn't been linear.

[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I could have stuck with a corporate job earlier on in my career and just kind of put my head

[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_00]: down and gone with the flow.

[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_00]: That wasn't me, that wasn't my character, my persona.

[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it was stuff or miss but I knew I needed to create something that allowed me a little

[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_00]: bit more autonomy, independence, freedom, creativity, collaboration and of course purpose

[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_00]: in my life.

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, starting out in my business, me, myself and I, you know, saying yes to a lot of

[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: things and quite frankly over a couple of years looking back and really not even recognizing

[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_00]: myself or what I had created.

[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Proud of the work but working with certain clients and certain projects that didn't feel

[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_00]: aligned.

[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_00]: It felt like work.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: It felt like I was working for the business rather on the business and wait a minute,

[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: isn't this just a typical job?

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: That's led to burnout, physical, emotional, mental.

[00:01:54] [SPEAKER_00]: That's led to anxiety and stress.

[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: That's led to some mental health struggles and issues quite frankly.

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: And even at our peak as a business revenue and client wise it felt unfulfilling at times

[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: and it took being brought to my knees where within a matter of three to four months

[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: we went from pretty much our best month and quarter to date to almost being completely wiped out

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: for a variety of reasons.

[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Losing clients, losing revenue, going through some personal struggles, death of a mentor,

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_00]: health issues.

[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean it was taking body blows and being brought to your knees instead of hanging up

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: and saying, all right well I give up let's try something different.

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: It actually gave me the resolve and the resilience to dig a little bit deeper and

[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_00]: really think hard and long indeed about what it was I wanted out of life and my business and my career.

[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: And that was kind of for me that path and pursuit of purpose and finding that for myself.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_00]: And it is a constant affair.

[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there is a there, hey I made it.

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_00]: It is an everyday endeavor but I consider my purpose to help others discover and develop

[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_00]: theirs and turn it into the life and business of their dreams.

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: So that was necessary.

[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't recommend everyone wait until they're brought to their knees to dig deep and find that.

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_00]: But I can tell you it has not been an easy journey.

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: It could be lonely, it could be isolating.

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Another bit of wisdom I wish I would have given my former self is really align yourself

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_00]: with a great mentor or coach.

[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Someone to be by your side as an entrepreneur it's tough.

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: We wear the weight of the shoulder, weight of the world on our shoulders.

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I think what's worked for me and helping build resilience is mindset really first and foremost.

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Learning to set healthy boundaries in work and life.

[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Learning to as my former mentor, you know, hit your mind right.

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Working truly hard on my mental health day in, day out to take care of me put on my

[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_00]: own oxygen mask first, right at times.

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And try to you know continuously each and every day take one step closer towards that

[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_00]: pursuit of purpose.

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: What is it that is fulfilling me and what am I meant to be doing in this life?

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I know that has sounds a little bit any flighty and cliché to some people, but at least in my

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: journey one of the biggest setbacks was dealing with mindset mental health and all

[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_00]: the success and revenue in the world wasn't going to fix that.

[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: It was me.

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Right because at the end of the day we all have to look at ourselves in the mirror

[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and like what we see within ourselves.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And if we can start there mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually and be fit in those

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_01]: circles in those areas then we can effectively passionately with purpose show up in our everyday

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_01]: lives in our businesses as well.

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_01]: So thank you.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for sharing that because everyone has their highs and lows.

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_01]: We all have highs and lows in our business.

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_01]: If we especially if we have them in our personal life, we're going to have them

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_01]: in business as well.

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01]: So thank you for taking time to actually share some of your story with us.

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And guys, this is what this podcast is about.

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_01]: It is about giving you some practical tips and strategies along the way, but it's also

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_01]: sharing things that I wish I learned when starting a business and bringing on other

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_01]: people who are sharing their story, their passion, their purpose in life, but also

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_01]: sharing the hindsight in their business as well.

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you find that this episode resonates with you, download this episode, bookmark it,
