[00:00:00] Here's a quick cut preview of an upcoming episode of the Work It, Live It, Own It podcast.
[00:00:12] You came to the country, you opened up your business, you and your wife, in three months.
[00:00:17] You went from one basketball camp to multiple basketball camps.
[00:00:21] My question was, how in the world, I know about the strength, the discipline, the mindset.
[00:00:26] You've got to show up even if there's one child versus 15, 20.
[00:00:30] My question was, okay, how did you raise the capital to get that?
[00:00:34] And I know this is what you do now.
[00:00:36] You're a capital raiser.
[00:00:37] So could you share with us a little bit more about your role as a capital raiser and what that entails?
[00:00:44] Great question as well.
[00:00:45] Number one, I had that imposter syndrome, right?
[00:00:49] Because I always probably was saying, you know what, if you in the financial field, right,
[00:00:54] you got to go to Harvard University and you got to finish like multiple different financial services
[00:01:00] and courses and that and this.
[00:01:01] But then I start to realize when I hire my third financial advisors, they didn't reach
[00:01:06] up again, but it's not always in the favor of your personal aim, right?
[00:01:11] Because again, they employ by a big company, right?
[00:01:14] And they have certain guidelines and they have certain frames, right?
[00:01:17] And it's not always aligned with personal, you know, financial goals and stuff.
[00:01:22] So basically I started to say, you know what, can I educate myself better?
[00:01:26] And then can I go deeper to the topic?
[00:01:29] Can I become more sophisticated, right?
[00:01:32] By myself, I'm studying the whole life, right?
[00:01:36] Because I got first education, second education.
[00:01:39] And I went through the, you know, United States education.
[00:01:42] I went to college doing accounting, right?
[00:01:45] And business courses.
[00:01:46] And then I went to Harvard doing like investment and financing courses and stuff.
[00:01:50] So I dove into that financial world.
[00:01:52] I dove into like, well, it's going to be the best return for myself.
[00:01:56] That's the beginning of my investing career.
[00:01:59] I said, listen, let me become better than 90% of the people, right?
[00:02:03] On the planet.
[00:02:04] So to go some more sophisticated in real estate investing world.
[00:02:07] And that was the beginning of it.
[00:02:09] The second one was just a personal journey.
[00:02:12] When the people see me doing things, just like I'm quite like laughing, right?
[00:02:17] I had like a bunch of single family, right?
[00:02:19] And single units investments.
[00:02:21] And I was like normal favorite by it.
[00:02:23] But then nobody owned around my network.
[00:02:26] I think I still have 15.
[00:02:28] Nobody owned an apartment complex.
[00:02:29] And I was like, oh, you know what?
[00:02:31] It's impossible.
[00:02:32] You can do that.
[00:02:32] It's just for big guys and blah, blah, blah.
[00:02:35] And you got a break through that mentality.
[00:02:37] I was like, oh, you know what?
[00:02:38] Why are they saying this?
[00:02:39] Let's go deeper.
[00:02:40] Let's find out how to do that.
[00:02:42] And we came across the education model.
[00:02:44] I said, okay, if I'm not good enough to put $20 million in the deal,
[00:02:47] so I can put like $100 million to $1 million, right?
[00:02:51] And became part of it.
[00:02:52] It started my learning process.
[00:02:54] Basically, response to your question is leaving as a personal example.
[00:02:58] I started to really lead with saying, you know what?
[00:03:00] I'm already owner.
[00:03:02] It's part owner.
[00:03:03] I'm not full owner, but I'm owner of apartment complex.
[00:03:06] So in the beginning, it was just an opinion, right?
[00:03:09] And then became a little bit more of like, I know better.
[00:03:12] Let me ask him because he's doing that, right?
[00:03:15] And then I became well-known in space.
[00:03:17] So he's doing multifamily.
[00:03:19] You can ask the questions.
[00:03:20] This guy, right?
[00:03:20] Because he knows what he's doing.
[00:03:22] I would stay like Glenn.
[00:03:23] Basically, leading was a personal example.
[00:03:25] It was a huge thing.
[00:03:27] And then secondly, probably thirdly, right?
[00:03:29] The third thing was people start to realize the success in the business space first.
[00:03:35] And then they said, okay, whatever he is doing, it's becoming successful.
[00:03:39] I don't know what the secret is, but if he's going to put his mind into this thing,
[00:03:43] it's going to become successful.
[00:03:45] Reflecting back on that.
[00:03:46] And again, it's probably goes a lot from the discipline of the sports and then focusing
[00:03:50] on the one thing, even 150% instead of just 100, nobody watching you.
[00:03:56] So, and that led me to all of those small successes, right?
[00:04:00] Which is building the future and then building my presence right now.
[00:04:03] So basically people start to ask how it can be part of your success.
[00:04:07] I like that because when you have a dream, most people have a dream and inspiration to do something
[00:04:15] or aspiration to do something.
[00:04:17] And then people will be like, oh, that's just for the top 1%.
[00:04:20] But you didn't take that.
[00:04:22] You didn't take that as gospel.
[00:04:24] You didn't take that.
[00:04:25] That's the answer.
[00:04:26] This is my lot in life.
[00:04:28] You were like, no.
[00:04:29] Let me figure out for myself what it is that they're doing and how I can be better for myself.
[00:04:35] And we are lifelong learners.
[00:04:36] You also mentioned that we're lifelong learners.
[00:04:38] You're going to learn every phase of your life and your career.
